OBITUARY

Early Years

William “Fred” Frederick Crosby, born on March 26, 1956, in Bessemer, Alabama.  He was the 6th of seven siblings.  He began his education in the Jefferson County school system.  He attended Brighton High School where he was the Vice-President of the Class of 1974 and a member of the school choir.  His love for singing and music led him to join a band “Between the Two”.

Band Years

In 1974, Bill Whitten presented an opportunity for the “Between the Two” band to tour the east coast.  Early band members included: William “Fred” Crosby, Ernest “Flip” Sykes, Don Sykes, Leo Key, Marvin Moore, Greg Miller, Dwight Shelton and Ira Walters.  The band toured the east coast performing in Alabama, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Connecticut.  When the band provided the offer for west coast performances, Fred moved to California.  While in California, the band members were introduced to influential entertainers and celebrities, such as, Earth Wind & Fire, The Commodores, and the Jacksons.  In 1979, an opportunity to take the band to Japan arose.  Some band members declined the chance while other members were added such as, Jez Graham (who became a lifetime friend).

Education / Career

After the Japan tour, the “Between the Two” band disbanded.  Fred attended Pasadena City College in Pasadena, CA, where he obtained an Associate of Arts – Business degree.

Fred’s career spanned various roles, including a tenure at National Car Rental.  He started working at the Burbank Airport location as a Lot Attendant then was promoted to Management at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  He worked for National Car Rental for over 20 years where he made close friendships that lasted until today.  In 1994, he transferred to the Atlanta airport where he worked until he got employment with GE Capital in their Finance Department.  His division was sold to Synchrony Financial, where he retired in 2018.  During the 24 years with his “G.E. /Synchrony” family, he cherished his many friendships.

Marriage / Family

While performing in Los Angeles, Fred was introduced to his future wife, Carrie Lynne Houston, by her brother Edward “Eddie” Houston.  Fred was united in holy matrimony to Carrie on June 25, 1988.  To this union, two children were born, Camille Nicole and Crystal Lynne.

On September 20 2022, Fred and Carrie became the proud grandparents of Atlas Edward Stapleton through the marriage union of their eldest daughter, Camille Nicole and Jesse Stapleton.

Unexpectedly, early Saturday morning on January 25, 2025, Fred was called home to be with the Lord.  Fred leaves to cherish his loving memories to be shared by his wife, Carrie Crosby; his children: daughter, Camille Stapleton; daughter, Crystal Crosby; his son-in-law, Jesse Stapleton; his grandson, Atlas Stapleton; his siblings, Dianne S.
