PAUL HENDERSON Obituary

Paul G. Henderson was born on November 12, 1953, in Tyler, Texas, to the proud parents Winston and Cecil Henderson. From their union, six children were born—five boys and one girl. At the age of three, Paul and his family relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he was raised.

From a very young age, Paul developed a deep passion for music. He learned to play the keyboard, guitar, and most notably his favorite, the bass guitar. This talent earned him the nickname “The Bass Man,” a name that would follow him throughout the years as his gift took him around the world.

Paul received his early education through the Los Angeles Unified School District and later graduated from Centennial High School. In June 1986, Paul met the love of his life, Alice Hamilton. It came as no surprise to those who knew them that just a few months later, on October 23, 1986, they were united in marriage. From this beautiful union, they were blessed with three children.

Throughout his musical career, Paul played with the group Medusa, who were signed to A&M Records, and traveled to England. He also performed for troops at Army bases across Europe and Korea. Over the years, Paul played with numerous bands and artists, including Jet Black (now known as IZ-BE), Brenton Wood (The Oogum Boogum Song), Aalon (Rock and Roll Gangster), 7th Avenue, and Jermaine Jackson. Notably, while performing with Jermaine Jackson, Paul had the opportunity to open for Bon Jovi.

Paul had a passion like no other. While his love for music remained at the center of his life, he also dedicated years of service working in property evidence with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, where he later retired. He then continued his professional journey with Kopane, from which he also retired. In his later years, Paul worked in security with HCA (Health Department of Irvine) until he was called home by God.

In his personal time, Paul found joy in many things. He loved gigging alongside his brothers, engaging in lively conversations about aliens, and spending peaceful moments fishing—one of his favorite pastimes. Known for his sense of humor, he often shared his memorable saying with the kids: “I’m gonna bust you in the head to the white meat,” always bringing laughter to those around him.

Paul was an exceptionally intelligent man who enjoyed deep and meaningful conversations with his friends, all of whom recognized and admired his sharp mind. Above all, his love for his family was undeniable and unwavering.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kimmie.

He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Alice; his three children, Kristal, Lil Paul, and Jazz’e; and his four grandchildren, Brielle, Khamier, Julian, and Miyahne. He is also survived by his brothers: Eugene (Darlene), Ronald (Rose), Anthony (Tonita), Gary (Sharen), and his brother from another mother, Clarence (Andra).

He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews: Deon, Derrick, Troy, Alicia, Toni, Jovon, Tiffeny, Gary, Ryan, Nigel, and Mia along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends, and loved ones.
