Lariston Emerson Henderson, affectionately known as "Larry," was born on September 18, 1951, in London, England, to Estreana Morrison. A proud Jamaican, Larry was raised with deep Caribbean roots and strong values. Alongside his younger sister, Pam, Larry spent his early years in London before the family returned to Jamaica, where he would grow into the man so many came to admire.
In the mid70s Larry made his way to San Francisco, California to begin a new chapter. His devotion to music inspired him to open a record store selling reggae music in Berkeley together with his friends. They also produced records for a few bands. He then met the love of his life, Diana. Their bond was immediate, enduring, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, resilience, and strength. A talented general contractor, Larry owned and operated his own business, taking pride in his craftsmanship and, in the opportunities he provided for others. His work built homes, but more importantly, it helped build lives.
Larry's life was defined by motion, building, and giving. As a young man, he briefly played professional football (soccer) in London, blending talent with passion in a way that marked his early journey. He was also a skilled and observant photographer, capturing the world around him through creative lenses.
Larry was a provider in the deepest sense of the word. He shared his time, resources, talents, and heart without hesitation. He gave family members their first jobs, helped friends get back on their feet, and showed up for people in ways that were life-changing. Larry's kindness was unmatched, and his presence left a mark on everyone he encountered. Whether it was how he spoke to someone with respect, gave someone a chance, or helped someone believe in themself, Larry's impact radiated far beyond his immediate circle.
He also never lost his sharp sense of humor-subtle, sly, and perfectly timed. Even in his final year, Larry found ways to bring smiles to those around him. His grace, dignity, and wit never faded.
Larry passed from this life into eternity on June 9, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mother Estreana Morrison.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; his sister, Pamela Dawson; his devoted children-Aida Henderson, Lee Henderson (Kim Henderson), Kansas Henderson (Laurice Barksdale), Lareema Martin (Cedric Martin), and Estri Henderson; his niece and nephew, Trisha Parker (Darryl Parker) and Larry Dawson (Nicole Blade); and his seven beloved grandchildren-Omari Barksdale, Kaylee Henderson, Layla Henderson, Summer Martin, Diana Barksdale, Kenzi Martin, and August Wiley. Each of them carries a part of his legacy-his wisdom, his generosity, his strength.
A host of cousins, extended family members, life-long friends, and others whose hearts shared in his journey, also carry a piece of his story forward.
