“The Life of a Beautiful Soul”
It is a rare occasion when we have the privilege of knowing a truly unique
individual like Frances. She was a person whom GOD blessed with grand attributes such as love,
care, compassion, and a total dedication to her family and friends. Frances was a mother to all
she encountered and viewed them as “her babies.” Such was the life of Frances Fannie Mae
Thomas! Frances was loved and respected by everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
Frances was born in Texarkana, Arkansas to Mary Hollins and George Hill. She received her
early education in Wichita, Kansas, and moved to Los Angeles, California, in her early 20’s. She
finished school in Los Angeles and worked in social services for Los Angeles County. This
career spanned nearly 40 years until she retired at age 65. Frances was a bright shining star in the
County. She left with a legacy of honor and praise. Frances married and had four children:
Rochelle, Raymond Jr., Chris, and Michael. She raised her children to finish school and taught
them to have respect and love for others.
Affectionately known later in life as “Granny”, she was
a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and others. Granny lived to make all those around her
feel comfortable. Frances took care of business and others, and for this, she will be truly missed
by her family, neighborhood, and many friends. Frances leaves four children & their wives to
cherish her memory: Rochelle Ann Emily, Raymond R. King, Jr. (Linda Smallwood King)Chris
A. King, and Michael Thomas (LaSaundra “Wink” Thomas ). She leaves seven grandchildren:
Raymond King III, Brandie Lynn King, Ryann McLaren, Raki Wright, Chris King, Jr.,
Kantazhia Thomas, Mechele Thomas, 13great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frances was an example of what real love is supposed to be. She will be sorely missed!
