On October 21, 2024, Benjamin Gransberry Parker departed from this life while at home.
Benjamin G. Parker was born on May 29, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. He was the only child born to James L. Parker and May Ora Gooden. Benjamin attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles and graduated from Morse High School in San Diego, California, in 1978. Early in his career, he held various positions before joining Mira Verde H.O.A in 1989 as a handyman. In 1999, he was promoted to On-Site Manager, a role he held for 25 years. Benjamin was remembered fondly by his colleagues at Mira Verde for his kindness, dedication, and attentive listening.
Benjamin loved gatherings with family and friends and was often the designated grill master at cookouts. Known as “everybody’s best friend,” he had an infectious laugh and a generous nature that drew people to him. Even in the face of life’s challenges, he showed remarkable resilience and grace, inspiring those around him.
Benjamin had many interests and hobbies. He loved sports cars, especially Nissan Zs and Corvettes. Music was another passion—he kept up with the latest R&B and rap music yet cherished oldies and appreciated memorable guitar solos. He also enjoyed tending to his aquarium, finding relaxation in caring for his fish.
In 1980, Benjamin welcomed his only child, a daughter, Amber Parker. He was a devoted father and took pride in providing Amber with an upbringing in both Los Angeles and San Diego. He instilled in Amber independence and confidence and shared with her a love of music. In 2009, Benjamin became a proud grandfather with the arrival of his granddaughter Gabrielle, lovingly called “Curly Top.” She was the joy of his life and brought him immense happiness. He cherished his role as a grandfather.
Benjamin also cherished precious moments with his beloved companion, Gwen Gullette. They enjoyed traveling and spending quality time together.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his father, James L. Parker (2013), and his mother, May Ora Williams (2020). He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Amber Parker-Shaw (Daniel); granddaughter, Gabrielle Shaw; companion, Gwen Gullette; siblings, Christian J. Parker, Moneka Reece, Raylawn Parker, and Landry Parker; bonus children, Scott Washington, Tyresha Gilbert, Travon Holifield, Sheron Smith, Sha’Quia Smith; and a host of loving family members and friends.
